Eat Foods that Are Known to Protect Tooth Enamel

In order to create a strong enamel, it is important to eat foods that will support your teeth. Calcium is especially important, as calcium that is found in food can counter the acids in your mouth that might result in decay. It can also keep the teeth and bones strong. Milk and cheese can strengthen and protect the enamel, but you should be sure to choose low calorie or fat-free items to keep calorie levels down.

Brush – But Not Too Much

Brushing is important for healthy teeth, but it is important to note that you can over-brush. If you brush too hard or too fast, you can cause your enamel to wear down. Choose a brush with soft bristles, and hold them at about a 45-degree angle with your gums. Move the brush in short, gentle strokes in a back and forth motion, not up and down. You should also be sure to avoid brushing for about an hour after you eat sugary foods or anything high in acid.

There are certain conditions that could negatively impact your enamel, the most prominent of which include acid reflux, heartburn, and eating disorders. With acid reflux, stomach acids can escape up your throat and could eventually reach the mouth, where they are able to erode the enamel.
