Aging and Teeth

Aging is inevitable and the changes that come with the years will affect almost all the different parts of our bodies, including the teeth and gums.

Most people associate dentures to the elderly but dental issues and treatments for people past middle age are much more than just dentures. In fact, many different procedures and modern dental techniques may be better for some compared to dentures.

Some common issues older generations face are gum disease and decaying gums. Many people face decaying teeth and tooth loss, often as a result of gum decay. Consult with your dentist often, and have regular cleanings and checkups to carefully monitor your teeth. This can prevent serious issues from occurring.

For some, dental implants are the best route to take for missing teeth. These are permanent replacement teeth that actually attach to the jaw bone, as normal teeth would. Some people lack the bone structure for implants, so dentures are the better option.

Teeth can alter as you age, but being consistent with your oral care can help prolong your gorgeous smile. As we get older, your gums can pull away from your teeth. This gives way for teeth and gums to become easily infected and decayed. Moreover, some medications can cause a dry mouth, resulting in the same consequences.

So fight this battle head on with your toothbrush and floss. Brushing twice a day, and flossing once, will aid in cleaning those pearly whites. The dentist can help as well. Make sure to schedule regular checkups to confidently know your teeth are on track. You are necessarily destined for dentures, though that might be the best choice for you. Make sure you are well informed about all the choices available to you as you deal with the issues of oral health with age.
